Treatment and Second Opinions: Your Path to Us
Parents can request a consultation or second opinion by emailing kinderchirurgie@uk-brandenburg.de with their child's existing medical records, in English, Spanish or German. Dr. Reck-Burneo reviews the documents personally and replies with his assessment. Families living in Germany can also book an appointment through the secretariat at +49 3381 411270 or online via Doctolib.
Whether your child has just been diagnosed or has already been operated on elsewhere, the first step is the same: get in touch. Choose the path that fits your situation.
If you live in Germany
The regular route runs through your pediatrician (Kinderarzt or Kinderärztin): ask for a referral (Überweisung) to the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Surgery and Pediatric Urology at University Hospital Brandenburg an der Havel. Then make an appointment:
- by phone through the secretariat: +49 3381 411270 (the secretariat operates in German)
- by email: kinderchirurgie@uk-brandenburg.de, in English, Spanish or German
- online via Doctolib: clinic profile or personal profile of Dr. Reck-Burneo
Brandenburg an der Havel is close to Berlin, which makes the clinic reachable for families from Berlin and the surrounding region. The consultation itself can take place entirely in English or Spanish.
If you are contacting us from abroad
Many families with a child affected by an anorectal malformation, Hirschsprung disease or severe constipation look for expertise beyond their home country. You do not need an agency or middleman to reach us: write to us directly.
Send an email to kinderchirurgie@uk-brandenburg.de in English, Spanish or German and attach the records you already have. Helpful documents are:
- previous doctors' letters and discharge summaries
- operative reports, if your child has already had surgery
- pathology or histology results, if available (for example rectal biopsy results)
- imaging, if available, for example a contrast enema study
Organizational questions concerning the hospital, for example admission as an international patient, interpreter support or visa invitation letters, can only be answered on request: please include them in your email, and we will tell you what is possible in your case.
What you send, what happens next
- You write to us by email and attach your child's existing records.
- Dr. Reck-Burneo personally reviews the documents.
- You receive a personal reply with his assessment and a recommendation for the next step.
A second opinion is a legitimate step
You can request a consultation even if, and especially if, your child has already been operated on elsewhere. With rare conditions such as anorectal malformations and Hirschsprung disease, getting a second opinion is common practice worldwide and does not commit you to surgery or to changing your treating team. If a redo operation is not advisable, you will hear that too: an honest assessment is the point of the exercise.
Costs
For all questions regarding costs and the course of treatment, please contact Dr. Reck-Burneo directly. Everything else will be clarified in a personal conversation.
